Park Flies Thames Gateway Flag for Kent

11 November 2009

Kent Science Park flew the flag for the county when its site director took to the stage at this year’s Thames Gateway Forum.

Held at the O2 in London on Tuesday 3 November, the Forum is the year’s most important gathering focusing on the development and sustainability of Thames Gateway, which embraces large parts of Kent, Essex and London Docklands.

Speaking from the Forward Thinking stage, James Speck, site director at Kent Science Park, focused on the enhancement and improvement of existing communities and business clusters in the wider Gateway region, and what is needed for their expansion.

“Given the economic conditions it was clear that there is a growing issue of how the government’s ambitious targets are to be achieved. However, it was reassuring to see the number of schemes, such as ourselves, that are still looking to create jobs and ensure we are well placed to bounce back quickly from recession,” said James.

He added: “The recent approval of our proposals to expand the Park by four hectares shows that there is the collective ambition to deliver an economically strong Thames Gateway.”

James Speck followed presentations by three of the Gateway’s most important individuals, including the Rt Hon John Denham MP, Secretary of State for Communities and Local Government; Sir Bob Kerslake, chief executive of the Homes and Communities Agency, and Joe Montgomery, director general of the Department for Communities and Local Government.

The Forum welcomed more than 1,000 delegates during the one day event.
