Gordon Henderson says Businesses are Central to Economic Recovery

01 July 2010

Newly elected Conservative MP Gordon Henderson stressed the importance of ensuring continued growth within the private sector as he gave his opening address to Kent Science Park’s Budget Breakfast event on Wednesday 30th June.

Kent Science Park was delighted to welcome the Member of Parliament for Sittingbourne and Sheppey, who used his speech to underline that, ultimately, it was not the government that would be responsible for the resurgence of the nation’s economy, but businessmen and women.

In his speech the MP also outlined some of the measures in the coalition government’s emergency budget that he believed would be of great benefit to businesses in the area.

There then followed an in depth analysis delivered by Martin Mann of McCabe Ford Williams of the changes to taxation laid out in the budget, how they would affect both individuals and their companies and how to ensure that a business is as tax efficient as possible.

The breakfast event, jointly hosted by Thames Gateway Chamber of Commerce and McCabe Ford Williams, was attended by business leaders from throughout the region and was judged to be a great success.

James Speck, Kent Science Park Site Director, said: "This is the kind of event where Kent Science Park really comes into its own. By bringing together our local politician, expert accountants, the Thames Gateway Chamber of Commerce and members of the business community we provided a unique opportunity for everyone involved to get to the bottom of what is a complex business subject. To have Gordon Henderson show his support for the event was apreciated by all who attended and it was encouraging to hear from our MP the importance both he and central government place on the private sector being the key driver behind a recovery."
